Hearing & Noise / Education

THE BASICS, MADE CLEAR.

Understanding sound helps you make a better choice about when to reduce it and what kind of protection a situation requires.

01

Sound is measured in decibels

A quiet room has a much lower sound level than a busy road or concert. Decibels describe sound level; they do not tell the whole story about comfort, risk or the right product.

02

Loudness and time work together

The level of sound and how long you are exposed both matter. Moving away from a source and limiting exposure time can be as important as what you wear.

03

Reduction is not silence

Earplugs reduce sound reaching your ears. The experience changes with the product, your ear-tip size, the seal and the type of sound around you.

04

Use the right protection

Consumer earplugs are not a substitute for appropriately certified protection in occupational or extremely loud environments such as construction, firearms or aviation.
